Circle of Grandparents in Central Ohio

Posted to Phil Giessler

As Realtors in the Columbus, Ohio area, selling real estate for over 40 years, we pride ourselves in our involvement in the communities we serve. One activity we love to participate in is called, “Circle of Grandparents www.circleofgrandparents.com .” It is not necessary to be a grandparent to participate, just a willing volunteer. Under the umbrella of PCC, Partners for Citizenship and Character, established in the mid to late 90’s, Circle of Grandparents volunteers monthly, or more, in various elementary schools in Worthington Schools, in central Ohio.

Yesterday was our last day with the first graders at Worthington Estates School. We discussed the word for May, TRUSTWORTHINESS. We sang, we read a book about the trusty elephant the mailman, we did a “do you trust?” game and simply discussed. From September, 2009 thru May 2010, we have discussed with the children Respect, Responsibility, Self-discipline, Compassion, Tolerance, Honesty, Diligence, and Commitment. Time did not permit the last three: Moral Courage, Spirituality, and Integrity.

These young children listened with their ears and their hearts and communicated with us their thoughts on the meaning of the qualities of each month and shared their experiences with us. It was awesome to hear about the feelings and beliefs coming forth from such young minds. We felt we were learning as much as we hoped they were learning. We are hopeful that next Fall, as second graders, they will show these qualities to their classmates and we will all be better for it!

Consider moving to our wonderful communities in central Ohio. Worthington, Dublin, Upper Arlington, New Albany, Westerville, Hilliard, Grandview, the Short North and downtown homes and condominiums all have so much to offer. Call us at 1-800-848-6996 or visit us at www.camtaylor.com. We work with first time buyers to retirees, starter homes to million dollar estates. We are SRES certified and many hold the CRS, CRB, GRI designations. We are with you from start to finish, through the process of buying or selling your home.

Memorial Day Celebrations Central Ohio

Posted to Phil Giessler

Central Ohio hosts many activities to honor Memorial Day. A popular event in Worthington for so many years, the parade is held on Monday, May 28. Culminating at the cemetery, the parade begins at 10 on Dublin Granville Road and turns south on High. Bands, old cars, military personnel, clowns and candy thrown from the cars by the politicians and other dignitaries make this a fun time for all the family. As well, Grandview Heights will again march from Cambridge Blvd. down First Ave. to Oxley. Many alums from the Grandview High School and reunion groups participate in the event. Downtown Powell will honor the veterans with a parade and ceremony, all beginning at 10:00 a.m. The parade will end at the village green with a free concert and a tour of the new Police Department. A ceremony at 2:00 on Sunday will be held in the Fairview Memorial Park, where the Delaware residents will celebrate. A parade in Dublin will begin at 11:00 a.m. and in Westerville at 9:45.

Central Ohio is a wonderful place to live. If you are moving or relocating to the area, please call us for all your real estate needs: Cam Taylor Co., Realtors, 1-800-848-6996.

Memorial Golf Tournament in Columbus, Ohio

Posted to Columbus Attractions, Phil Giessler

I am not a golfer but my closest friends are. They are able to relax and enjoy and not be too competitive.

The Memorial Tournament, hosted at the Championship Muirfield Village Golf Club, Columbus, Ohio, is right around the corner. Kick-off is May 31, 2010 in Dublin, Ohio. The question today seems to be will Tiger Woods attend or not? With a bad neck, possibly not better by the end of May, the tournament may see fewer attendees if Tiger is absent. In the past, without Tiger, attendance has been down. While it seems that personal morals and professional golf are not related, it seems a shame to me that people might elect to stay away if Tiger does not play. Enough said about that.

Dublin, Ohio has been host to the Memorial Tournament since its beginning, Jack Nicklaus, its founder, being a home town boy, raised in Columbus, Ohio. The Club was build beginning in 1972. The first tournament was held on Memorial Day in 1974 between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf. The first actual Memorial Tournament was held in 1976 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Muirfield is one of many housing communities within the Dublin, Ohio area and school district. Dublin has a newly renovated downtown area with shopping and restaurants, and the city has surely grown from a small crossroads in the past. The school system is strong  and the community is a very popular area to call home. Nearby is the Columbus Zoo, with the just arrived white polar bears. Many are spending their leisure time roaming the zoo weekends and schools are making the zoo their end of the year field trips.

Whether golf, eating out, shopping or walking the zoo are your pleasure, Dublin, Ohio is the place to be. Make Dublin your home! Upper Arlington Reaches out to Haiti Quake Victims

Posted to Phil Giessler

Upper Arlington, Ohio is a community of well established homes where many residents move back after graduation from college. Steeped in history, one of the most looked forward to events is the July 4 parade. Surrounding neighborhoods participate in the parade, as well, and chairs mark saved seating beginning the day before the parade. This is an opportunity for many neighbors to invite family and friends to picnic together. The outstanding July 4 fireworks in U.A. is equally exciting. But Upper Arlington is much more!

This community of homes ranges in price from mid hundreds to million dollar homes. The schools are thought to be among the best and children who graduate tend to go on to higher education. Along with educating their youth, through church membership and school activities, the children are taught to give back to the community. Recently, a group of sixth graders from Jones Middle School, in U.A., after having witnessed pictures and T.V. coverage of the disaster in Haiti decided to do something about it. Their goal – to collect crutches to help the quake victims. The name of their project is Lean On Me, cooperating with an aid group in Virginia. Contributing their own money did not satisfy them so they have gone to the public for support. They planned a Limb-O-Fest fundraiser, not only to raise the funding needed, but to show the people of Haiti that people in Upper Arlington, Ohio do care. Donations have been coming in and the Ohio Orthopedic Center of Excellence has joined the campaign. All of this falls under the national project Walking Free sponsored by Physicians for Peace.

Moving to Ohio? Upper Arlington is a community to consider, a community who care. Call us at 800-848-6996 or visit our site at www.camtaylor.com. We know Upper Arlington homes and have been actively listing and selling homes in U.A. for over 40 years. We are available to answer any questions you may have and to find the perfect home!

Worthington Garden Center

Posted to Phil Giessler

Worthington, Ohio, founded in 1803 sits on the crossroads of Rt. 161 (Dublin-Granville Road) and Rt. 23 (High Street.) Known for its traditional New England style, the homes in “Olde” Worthington are mainly two story homes, wood or shingle or brick exterior and many with full porches. The Village Green is used for community activities and on two corners sits the Worthington Presbyterian Church and the Worthington Episcopal Church with a very old and small grave yard in the rear property. Visit www.camtaylor.com to tour the wonderful homes currently on the market. Members of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World® we can help you anywhere in the U.S. and beyond!

Until somewhat recently, the village of Worthington was complete with a drug store, dress shops, gift shops, flower shops, and all that one would imagine a thriving town to have. Gone now is one of the long time flower shops, which has moved north to a new strip mall and the two long standing grocery stores. Kroger, just north of the “Olde” Worthington section, serves the community still.

One of the most known and looked forward to times of the year was when the old grocery store parking lot was filled with spring and summer flowers, directly on High Street. Visitors to Worthington were treated to a colorful display as they drove north or south on High St. Best of all served to supply us all with our annual and perennial flowers. It gave you a feeling of “here we are; a community which, though large, gives us the small town feel.”

Well, now we are back in the swing with our new outdoor flower store right on Rt. 23 just behind the old Dairy Queen and beside the CVS. The Worthington Garden Center, owned and operated by soft spoken and knowledgeable Jared Brankamp, the variety of offerings is wide. Jared grew up in Worthington and now attends Ohio State University. While attending school, he runs his thriving business. I have purchased hostas, geranium hanging baskets and flats of ferns. Two potted plants were purchased there to brighten the entry to our office at Cam Taylor Co., Realtors®. Recently driving by the flower “Shoppe” Jared was sitting under the awning playing his guitar as more and more customers were driving in to shop. So, in one stop you may be treated to music and a variety of flower and plant choices. Jared will even load them in your car so all you do is point out and pay! Credit cards accepted!

It is fun to have these independent businesses among the institutional world we live in. Welcome Jared and welcome Worthington Garden Center!

How about those Buckeyes?

Posted to Phil Giessler

We, in Columbus, Ohio, have always been proud of The Ohio State University and the Buckeyes. We have an awesome University President, Gordon Gee. Amazing things happen when President Gee is around. Somehow things just seem to pop! Recently at the new Ohio Union, a gathering place for students and alums, an “impromptu” dance was staged. To onlookers, it appeared that this was random. However, as the video of the event progresses, it is clear these are students with a mission. Their mission? To raise the spirits of the gathered people and show just how great those Buckeyes are!

What Cam Taylor Co., Realtors Offers Real Estate Buyers and Sellers

Posted to Phil Giessler

As members of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, Cam Taylor Co., Realtors in Columbus, Ohio, does our best to offer our sellers and buyers comprehensive information to begin the process of selling or buying a home.

Our Strategic Analysis includes: When working with a seller, our salespeople, prior to listing a home do the following things:

  • An initial review of the property and information research about recent improvements
  • A tour of the house and property
  • Digital image of the interior and exterior of the home for future consideration of items needing attention
  • Request for the owner(s) or seller’s representative providing written narrative of the likes/dislikes of the particular property in consideration.
  • Mechanical and structural ages and any known improvements
  • Provide a title survey.

Then:

  • Create a written review of the information obtained from public records and the seller.
  • Review digital images and note repairs and improvements to be completed prior to marketing. i.e. Recommendations to Be Completed Prior to Marketing
  • Create a Property Marketability Analysis identifying positive and potentially objectionable features of the property. The owner is asked to participate.
  • Create a Current Market Absorption Analysis for the Macro and Micro areas that are relevant.
  • Create an Average Sales Price Comparison with prior year’s similar timelines.
  • Determine active competition relevant to the property.

Likewise: when working with a buyer we do our best to gather similar information on the homes in which the buyer has shown the most interest. After touring the neighborhoods, schools, community activities available, and homes within the buyers price range, we ask the buyer to narrow his search. At that time we offer similar and thorough information as we do for the seller of a property. We gather similar information which we offer to the buyer to help determine the best property for the family or individual.

We do our very best to familiarize ourselves with the clients likes and dislikes so as to get to the closing table in the shortest amount of time with as little stress as possible. We are with the client from start to finish and our goal is to be available 24/7 to our clients. We have a close knit organization and within our company are able to call upon each other in the case of being out of town or unavailable. Thus, we or one of our representatives is always at the client’s beck and call. Service is our goal and making the client happy is what we do best!

Columbus, Ohio Cares About its Kids

Posted to Phil Giessler

Recently I attended an event at the Early Childhood Learning Community on Rudy Road in the Original Knolls neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio, where my daughter is a teacher for Head Start. This is a collaborative school between Franklin County Board of Developmentally Disabled www.fcbdd.org and Head Start. 2 Franklin County BDD infant toddler rooms and 2 toddler rooms, and 5 preschool rooms combining the programs are housed at this school. With its own adaptive physical education instructor, art/music teacher, this school is truly outstanding in its expertise and offerings to pre-schoolers.

The event was an art show/fundraiser to raise funds for OLE, the outdoor learning environment play area at the school. Parents, teachers, students and friends attended. Several outside groups donated their time for this evening; live music was provided, Henna tattoos were done and the food was donated by the parents. The event usually raises $1000-$1500. One of the activities going on during the evening was the display of animals provided by the Reptile Guy www.PTReptiles.com. After my 7 year old granddaughter dared me I was brave and I allowed the reptile handler to wrap a very large snake, possibly four or five feet long. Amazingly, the skin felt very smooth but after a kiss on the nose, I was ready for the snake to visit someone else.

The goal of the school is:

  • Helping people to live, learn and work in our community.
  • Supporting parents and family members with life-long services where needed.
  • Supporting a caring community with cost effective services.
  • Providing stability in services, employment and finances
  • Maintaining strong partnerships with other providers.
Next week we will be attending Merry-Go-Round. This is an evening with entertainment by members of The Childhood League Organization including a silent auction, dinner and dancing. The proceeds from this event help fund the Childhood League Center www.childhoodleague.org, located in the downtown area of Columbus, near Children’s Hospital. As a member years ago, I know the commitment the men and women make to this organization and the love expressed to the children through their giving… of time and talent and donations.

The goal is that the children helped by these schools will have the tools required to begin their childhood educations in traditional school settings.
